How To Hang A Bicycle – Garage Bicycle Storage Tips

Lifting a Bike HoistLearning how to hang a bicycle is easy with the right bicycle hooks or hoists. And the truly great thing is a sturdy device used to hang your bicycle from the wall or ceiling will run you less than $20.

You want to consider a few things before deciding on how to hang your bicycle.

1. How big is your garage space. If you are super cramped for space, I recommend you look into a bike hoist that can be raised up off the garage floor and does not use up valuable wall space. One thing to keep in mind, however, is if you have a small one car garage, you will need to have space (12 inches is fine) on your ceiling to hoist the bike when the garage door is up.

2. Do you want to hang your bike on the ceiling or wall. Take a look at your garage, can you mount a bicycle on the wall AND be able to get to it, or are there piles of stuff on the floor in front of the available wall space? You want to get a bicycle hanger that gives you easy access and if you have to reach over a pile of junk to try and lug your bicycle out for a ride...well, you are more likely to say forget it.

Now that you know what type of bicycle hanging device fits your needs best, let's look at your best options.

1. Garage Bicycle Hoist. This is an extremely popular choice for visitors to our Garage Bicycle Storage site. What you will love about a bicycle hoist is the cost (our best seller will cost you about 20 dollars). What you may consider a drawback is that you will need one bike hoist for each bicycle you hang.

Garage bicycle hoists are great if you have limited garage space because your bicycle is literally stored overhead, yet it is super easy to get down for a ride. The bicycle hoist works on a pulley system that has a brake built in so your lifting is light and you do not worry about dropping your bicycle. Here is the bicycle hoist I recommend because of the positive reviews...it is also our best seller on Garage Bicycle Storage

2. Bicycle Wall Mounts. If you have easy access to wall space in your garage, you may like a bike hanger that mounts on the wall. What you will like about a good bike wall mount is that the cost is very low (you can get a great one for around 12 dollars). What you want to watch out for is that you get a two-prong bicycle wall hanger. The two prongs do not have to be space far apart, but by having two you get a much more sturdy mount.

I also recommend bicycle wall mounts that have a build in shelf where you can store your bicycle helmet and shoes conveniently. Here is a good quality bicycle wall hanger that gets very good reviews.

Storing a bike under stairwell at a college campus?

      Hi,
I realize that at most college campuses, such as my own, it is restricted by local and national fire codes to store bicycles underneath stairwells as it is a potential obstruction. I'm wondering whether these laws would still apply if the University were to install bolted down bike storage pods so that in case of a fire, the bicycle has no way of obstructing the exit path of residents. I plan to submit this proposal to the school soon but would like to make sure the fire laws would permit it, from my searches I could not find anything specific to this issue. Does anyone know if the fire code would allow such a thing?
      Thanks
